If you are looking for an exercise you can share and I had to recommend just one thing to try in 2026, it would definitely be badminton.
If I had to recommend just one thing for an hour of shared exercise in 2026, it would unequivocally be badminton. Forget the casual backyard plinking—on a proper court, it’s a completely different level of flow and engagement.
- Low Impact, High Fun: Unlike tennis or squash, badminton is surprisingly gentle on your joints. You’ll move a lot – lunging, jumping, sprinting short distances – but without the constant jarring impact.
- Accessible for All Levels: Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or haven’t picked up a racket in years, you can enjoy it. Beginners can rally with ease, while advanced players will find endless challenge in strategy, precision, and speed.
- Social & Engaging: It’s a fantastic way to spend time with friends, family, or a partner. It’s impossible to be glued to your phone when you’re chasing a shuttlecock!
- Mental & Physical Workout: Beyond the obvious physical benefits (cardio, agility, reflexes), badminton also demands focus, quick decision-making, and strategic thinking. It’s a full-body and full-mind engagement.
My final take
If someone had recommended badminton to me, I would have said “no thanks” and kept scrolling. But trust me: give it one real hour on a proper court. It is a completely different game than the backyard version you remember. Just try it.
